A Norwalk patient story
RV, 44, a Norwalk Community Hospital technician who needed implants around shift work
RV works rotating shifts at Norwalk Community Hospital on Norwalk Blvd. Like many healthcare workers, she spent years putting her own dental health behind her patients'. By the time she came to us in late 2025 she had lost two lower molars on the left side and a premolar on the right, and her bite had shifted enough to cause jaw fatigue after long shifts on her feet. She had consulted two general dentists in Norwalk who both quoted implants as an add-on to broader restorative plans she wasn't sure she needed.
At her consultation, Dr. Qiu reviewed a cone-beam CT scan and found that bone density at the molar sites was still adequate for standard-diameter implants without grafting, which reduced both cost and healing time significantly. The treatment plan covered three implants over two surgical visits, spaced to accommodate her rotating schedule. RV drove the 12-minute route from Norwalk Blvd to our office on Florence Ave each time, timing the appointments to fall during her off-rotation weekdays.
At her nine-month follow-up, all three implants were fully integrated and her bite had returned to symmetry. She described the jaw fatigue as gone. RV also referred her sister, a Cerritos College employee who lives in north Norwalk, for an implant evaluation the following spring. That kind of word-of-mouth referral from a healthcare worker who sees implant outcomes professionally carries particular weight for us.

Another Norwalk story
The G family from Norwalk chose us over a Cerritos chain
In early 2026 we saw three members of the same Norwalk family in a single month. The parents had both been considering implants for a few years and their adult son had a congenitally missing lateral incisor he had lived with since his teens. They had visited a corporate implant chain near the Cerritos Auto Square that used high-pressure financing and bundled package pricing the family found opaque.
Each of the three received an individual CBCT scan and treatment quote at their own consultation. The father needed a sinus lift on one side before implant placement; the mother was a straightforward two-implant case; the son's case involved a narrow-diameter implant in the cosmetically prominent incisor zone. All three moved forward. Total treatment spanned eight months across the family. None of the three required bone grafting beyond the father's planned lift.
They drove Pioneer Blvd north to the 605, then took 605 north to Florence each visit. At about 8 minutes from their home near Norwalk Square, it was a shorter drive than the corporate chain had been. The son's final crown was placed in February 2026 and the cosmetic result in the incisor zone matched the adjacent natural teeth closely enough that his employer only noticed when he mentioned it at work.
Getting to us from Norwalk
What the drive looks like from every Norwalk neighborhood
Our office is at 8500 Florence Ave, Suite 100 in Downey, roughly 6 to 12 minutes from most parts of Norwalk depending on where you start. Norwalk and Downey share a border along Lakewood Blvd, and several cross streets connect directly with no freeway required for the closest neighborhoods.
From Cerritos College / Norwalk Square area (Pioneer Blvd corridor, north Norwalk): Take Pioneer Blvd north about one mile to the 605 freeway on-ramp. Merge onto 605 north and take the Florence Ave exit immediately. Turn left on Florence; our office is on the south side of the street inside the first half mile. Total drive: about 8 minutes in normal traffic.
From Norwalk Park / central and north Norwalk (near Clarkdale Ave and Studebaker Rd): Head west on Imperial Hwy toward Lakewood Blvd, then turn right (north) on Lakewood to Florence Ave. Turn left on Florence. Total drive: about 6 minutes. This route avoids the freeway entirely and works well during peak hours when 605 on-ramps back up.
From south Norwalk near the 5 freeway (Rosecrans Ave corridor, near Norwalk Blvd and the 5): Take the 5 north to where it merges with the 605. Continue on the 605 north one exit to Florence Ave. Turn left. Total drive: about 10 minutes.
From the Norwalk-La Mirada border (Alondra Blvd area, near Valley View): Take 605 north to Florence Ave. Total drive: about 12 minutes. This is the longest corridor within Norwalk and still puts you in our chair well under 15 minutes. We have a free 30-space parking lot accessed from the alley off Brookshire Ave, fully ADA-compliant with two handicap spaces adjacent to the suite entrance.
Questions Norwalk patients actually ask
Five common questions specific to Norwalk
How long is the drive from the Cerritos College area to 5D Smiles?
From the Cerritos College campus and the surrounding Pioneer Blvd corridor in north Norwalk, the drive to our office takes about 8 minutes in normal traffic. Head north on Pioneer Blvd to the 605 freeway, take 605 north one exit to Florence Ave, and turn left. Our suite is at 8500 Florence Ave, Suite 100, on the south side of the street. The 605 ramp at Florence is uncongested during most of the day, so the estimate holds outside of the 7-9 AM and 4-6 PM rush windows.
Do you accept insurance plans that cover Norwalk Community Hospital staff?
Yes. Hospital employees in the LA County system typically carry Delta Dental PPO, Anthem Blue Cross PPO, or Cigna PPO through county benefits, and we accept all three. Many Norwalk Community Hospital nurses and technicians have used these plans with us for both the implant consultation and the surgical phases. Your $245 consultation includes a real-time benefits verification, so you will know your exact out-of-pocket cost before we schedule anything. HSA and FSA accounts from county benefits are also accepted.
Are appointment times available between shifts for Norwalk Community Hospital staff?
Our hours run Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 6 PM and Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. We schedule consultations and post-op checks as late as 5:15 PM on weekdays, which works for staff coming off a day shift. The drive from Norwalk Community Hospital on Norwalk Blvd to our office takes about 12 minutes via the 5 north to the 605 north and off at Florence, so a 5 PM shift end and a 5:15 PM consultation is achievable. We do not offer Saturday appointments, but the late weekday slots cover most shift patterns.
Do you serve patients from the Norwalk Senior Center community?
Absolutely. A meaningful share of our Norwalk patients are seniors, and implants are especially impactful for older adults who have been managing with ill-fitting dentures for years. The Norwalk Senior Center on Clarkdale Ave connects residents with health resources, and several of our patients have come through that community referral network. We are fully ADA-accessible (ground-floor suite, accessible parking directly outside), offer sedation options appropriate for patients with medical complexity, and can coordinate with primary care providers when clearance is needed for surgery.
How does 5D Smiles compare to dental practices in Norwalk itself?
Norwalk has a number of general dental offices along Pioneer Blvd and Rosecrans Ave that provide routine care and occasionally place implants. The distinction at our office is specialization: Dr. Qiu is implant-focused, uses the UCLA Vampire Implants™ Protocol on every case, and places every implant personally. There are no rotating providers and no associate hand-offs. For straightforward single-tooth cases the difference is mainly consistency. For complex cases (bone grafting, sinus lifts, full-arch reconstruction, or revision of failed implants) the gap widens considerably. We also price the entire treatment in writing at the first consultation, which many general practices do not do.
The Norwalk we serve
Norwalk landmarks within a 15-minute drive of our office
Cerritos College sits at the Norwalk-Cerritos border and draws a large community of students, faculty, and staff from across the southeast LA region. With roughly 22,000 students enrolled across degree and certificate programs, the campus generates a consistent population of working adults who need flexible appointment scheduling. Employees especially tend to seek care outside their immediate neighborhood, and several of our patients from the Cerritos College corridor have cited the 8-minute drive as a meaningful factor in choosing us over practices closer to campus but harder to park at.
Norwalk Community Hospitalon Norwalk Blvd is one of Norwalk's major employment anchors. Healthcare workers at the hospital deal with demanding schedules, high physical demands, and the particular irony of prioritizing others' health over their own. We have treated a number of nurses, surgical techs, and administrative staff from Norwalk Community, all of whom appreciated being able to plan treatment around shift patterns. The county PPO insurance most hospital employees carry is accepted in full at our office.
Norwalk Square and the Pioneer Blvd corridorform Norwalk's main commercial spine. Pioneer Blvd running north-south through the city connects Norwalk Square shopping to the Cerritos College campus and serves as the primary artery for north Norwalk residents heading toward Downey. Patients who do their grocery shopping or banking along Pioneer Blvd know this corridor well and frequently cite it when describing how they found our office.
Norwalk Park on Clarkdale Ave is the central community gathering space for Norwalk residents and is adjacent to the Norwalk Senior Center. The park draws families and older adults year-round and is a hub for city-organized health fairs and senior programming. Several of our Norwalk patients are senior center participants who learned about dental implant options through community health education events. We are a fully accessible office and welcome patients with mobility considerations or complex medical histories that require pre-surgical coordination with their primary care team.
